At a glance

The challenge
A growing distributor and customer network was run through shared inboxes and spreadsheets, with no governed way for external partners to self-serve or for enterprise security to approve external access at scale.
What we built
A suite of governed Power Pages portals on Dataverse, built inside the client's own Microsoft tenant with role-based access and auditability, wrapped in a Center-of-Excellence operating model.
The outcome
External partners now enter through one governed front door, security has the guardrails it required, and the platform has expanded continuously across a multi-year partnership.

01

The challenge

At enterprise scale, the manufacturer's external relationships had outgrown the tools running them. Distributor onboarding, documentation, and status requests moved through email and spreadsheets, which made the work slow to track and impossible to audit. Any move to let partners self-serve had to clear a high bar: the security organization needed governed, role-based external access it could review and defend.
02

The approach

We started with governance, not the portal. Establishing the data model in Dataverse, the security roles, and the environment strategy first meant the external experience could be built on ground the security team had already signed off on. A Center-of-Excellence operating model gave the platform a way to keep growing safely after launch.
03

What we built

A suite of Power Pages portals — governed, branded, and connected to Dataverse — that let external partners onboard, find documentation, and check status themselves, inside the client's own Microsoft tenant. Because the foundation was built for scale, each new capability extended the same platform rather than bolting on another disconnected tool.
04

The impact

The distributor network now has a single governed front door, the security team has the auditability and access control it required, and the engagement has continued expanding across three years — the pattern of a landed account that keeps growing because the platform underneath it was built to.

Common questions

What is a self-service portal for a medical manufacturer?

It is a secure external website, built here on Microsoft Power Pages and Dataverse, where distributors, reps, and customers log in to onboard, find documentation, and check status themselves — replacing email and spreadsheets with governed, auditable self-service inside the manufacturer's own tenant.

How is external access kept secure and compliant?

Access is role-based and runs inside the client's Microsoft tenant, with authentication, permissions, and audit trails designed in from the start. Building the governance foundation before the portal is what let the security organization approve external access at enterprise scale.
